Substantive Contribution 2 ā Reflection on My Design Process
For Challenge A, my group created a comic called The Science of Sleep, which showed how sleep supports memory and learning. Working on this project helped me see that design is not just about visuals but about how clearly information is shared. I contributed by writing the initial script, refining dialogue, and helping decide how to present ideas visually. Through this process, I learned to apply the Coherence Principle by removing distractions and the Contiguity Principle by aligning text and visuals to make the story easier to understand. These design choices made the comic more focused and engaging.
Looking back, I realized I could have included Signaling, such as arrows or short text labels, to guide attention to the main points. I also learned that linking design decisions more explicitly to multimedia theory makes the final product stronger. The peer feedback I received reminded me to make my observations detailed and theory-based rather than general.
Now, in Challenge B, Iām engaging in the design process by helping script and structure our educational videos on color psychology. I make sure each scene aligns with our goals, the narration matches visuals, and cues highlight key information. This experience has made my approach to design more intentional and reflective, helping me create learning materials that are both effective and meaningful.
